Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Cheryl always wanted to be a part of educating children and running a program in a child care setting. Cheryl has worked at Holly Oak for over a decade. Some of our school age parents remember Cheryl as their child’s Preschool 2 teacher, where she was nominated for the Governor’s Award for Teacher of the Year.
No longer in the classroom (Although, you may catch her there from time to time!), Cheryl takes care of the financial duties at the center. She works with staff and staffing at the center. Cheryl oversees daily operations. She also works with our Board of Directors at Holly Oak.
Cheryl has earned her Department of Education of Delaware Standard Certificate after studying for a Bachelors of Science degree in Early Childhood and Special Education from the University of Delaware. For those of you who may also have grown up in Delaware, Cheryl is also alumni of hometown Holy Rosary Elementary and St. Elizabeth’s High School.
When not referred to as “Ms. Cheryl”, she has been known to be called “Logan’s Mom” by some of the children at the center! Cheryl has two sons at the center, Logan Mitchell, her school age son, and her youngest, Jayson.
During her spare time, Cheryl can be found walking the track by her house. When it is quiet, Cheryl reads mysteries. She also enjoys scary movies and ghost stories, too!
Born and raised by a teacher for a mother in Western New York, Jennifer has been involved in the field of education most of her life. She has worked as an aid for children with special needs, directed a summer camp program, substitute taught; but, Jennifer loves teaching Pre-Kindergarten children best of all! The fact that Jennifer loves teaching is evident in her work, as Ms. Schiffmacher has received the honor of nomination three times for the Governor’s Award for Teacher of the Year. Jennifer has taught Pre-K since 1998 at 1511 Philadelphia Pike.
Ms. Schiffmacher graduated Cum Laude from SUNY College at Buffalo with a Bachelors of Science degree in Exceptional Education and a minor in Elementary Education. She dreams of going back to University for a Masters in Reading. Jennifer is CPR, First Aid and Medication certified. She has also received intensive training through the READ ASSIST Institute, where she was a volunteer.
When all of her boys are asleep, Jennifer enjoys reading, especially Alice Hoffman, Jodi Picoult and Anita Shreve books. She loves to cook, but does not bake! Jennifer adores the beach; summer is her favorite season. She is currently hiking the Delaware Trail Challenge and can’t wait to hike at Cape Henlopen - a great excuse to visit the beach!
